Celebrate Matariki, the Maori New Year, with a series of events showcasing Maori arts and culture.

The sighting of Matariki marks the dawning of the Māori new year, a time to reflect on the past and prepare for the year ahead.

This year's festival begins with a ceremony under the Manuhiri pouwhenua at Tāwharanui Regional Park, hosted by Ngāti Manuhiri. This is the chance to remember those who have passed, acknowledge those that remain and bless the new year with karanga, the sounds of ancient karakia and waiata.

The festival that follows includes art exhibitions, theatre and dance performances, talks and workshops throughout Auckland.

Many events are free, however, some have a charge. Bookings are required for some events.
