Kushi Japanese restaurant in Auckland's central business district is a relaxed restaurant based on the Izakaya style.
Izakaya comes from the traditional Japanese sake shops that allowed customers to drink on the premises and sometimes offered food. At Izakaya establishments, guests traditionally sit on tatami mats and dine at low tables. Kushi offers this and the more usual high seats and tables.
The menu includes sashimi, sushi, tempura, and teppan dishes. To accompany the meals, the restaurant serves a range of Japanese wine, beer and sake as well as locally brewed beer and cider.
