Description

Start your adventure at Mt Eden (Maungawhau), Auckland’s highest volcano. Enjoy amazing views of the city, both harbours, and nearby islands. Learn about its Māori history — once home to a fortified village — and see the large crater that shows the city’s volcanic past. Next, visit the Arataki Visitor Centre, the gateway to the Waitākere Ranges. From the viewing decks, you can see both the Tasman Sea and Pacific Ocean. Inside, explore displays about local nature, Māori culture, and the region’s history. Then travel through native bush to Piha Beach, a famous black-sand surf beach surrounded by cliffs.
