Description

Join a beginner-friendly sea kayak journey to Browns Island, departing from St Heliers Beach in Auckland. Paddle past Gentleman's and Ladies Bays through calm turquoise waters, circling the uninhabited dormant volcanic island accessible only by sea kayak and other vessels.

The one-way paddle to Browns Island takes approximately 45 to 60 minutes, with 1.5 to 2 hours of leisurely paddling overall. The remaining time is dedicated to coastal exploration, familiarizing yourself with kayak equipment and your surroundings.

The Waitemata Harbour and Hauraki Gulf contain abundant marine life, including coastal birds like Dotterel and Oystercatchers. Kayakers may also spot whales, dolphins, and occasionally little blue penguins during the tour.

Browns Island is a volcanic cone formed about 25,000 years ago and is one of Auckland’s 53 volcanoes within the still-active Auckland Volcanic Field. It is an uninhabited recreational reserve offering natural features and historical sites.

The tour provides educational opportunities for students and researchers interested in volcanology, geology, and environmental conservation, making it an ideal field study location.
