Description

Your day begins with pickup from your Auckland CBD hotel or the Cruise Terminal, before setting out along Auckland’s waterfront towards Bastion Point. Take in panoramic views across the Waitematā Harbour, Auckland skyline and Hauraki Gulf while your local guide shares stories of the city and its Māori heritage. Continue to Mission Bay, one of Auckland’s favourite seaside suburbs, with views across the water towards Rangitoto Island. From here, travel into the heart of the city and visit Auckland Domain and the historic Wintergardens, before continuing to Maungawhau / Mount Eden. Walk to the summit of Auckland’s highest volcanic cone for spectacular 360-degree views and a close look into its ancient volcanic crater. As you travel through Auckland, your guide will bring the city to life, sharing its volcanic origins, history, Māori heritage and modern culture. Around midday, enjoy approximately one hour of free time in the city centre. Choose a local café or restaurant for lunch at your own expense, or take some time to explore independently. After lunch, leave the city behind and cross Auckland towards the wild West Coast. Your first stop is Piha Beach, where the landscape changes dramatically to volcanic black sand, crashing Tasman Sea waves and rugged coastal cliffs. Explore the beach, admire the iconic Lion Rock and take time for photographs while learning about the geology and stories of this spectacular coastline. Continue into the Waitākere Ranges, travelling through winding roads surrounded by ancient native rainforest. Stop at the Arataki Visitor Centre for sweeping views across both of Auckland’s harbours, then continue deeper into the ranges to Karekare Falls. A gentle bush walk through native forest leads to this beautiful waterfall, tucked away among ancient trees. Throughout the day, enjoy a relaxed private experience with plenty of time for photographs, short walks and questions. Your guide will share local knowledge and hidden details along the way, with complimentary locally harvested kawakawa tea and New Zealand pōhutukawa honey to enjoy during the journey.
