Description
Begin your day with an 8:00 AM pickup from your Rotorua accommodation. Join a small group guided by an expert who shares insights into the area and background on Hobbiton and Waitomo caves.
Arrive at Hobbiton and take a walking tour led by a specialist guide through 44 Hobbit holes. You can take photos at Hobbit house doorways, see the Party Tree, and stand by Bilbo’s house ‘Bag End’ overlooking the set and surrounding hills. Before lunch, enjoy a complimentary ale, cider, or ginger beer at the Green Dragon Inn. Lunch is a buffet in the Party Marquee and is included in the price.
Travel through countryside beside Lake Karapiro and the Arapuni Dam en route to Waitomo Caves. An experienced guide leads a walking tour through the caves, including a boat ride through the glowworm grotto, weather permitting. Observe thousands of glow worms unique to the southern hemisphere in silence before exiting the cave.
After the Waitomo tour, continue to Auckland inner city accommodation with an optional stop for afternoon tea.
