Description
Step away from the city lights and discover a side of Auckland that most visitors never see. Join a small-group night walk with a local guide to explore a peaceful native forest reserve, home to a hidden colony of glow worms .
Your evening begins in central Auckland, where you’ll meet your guide and travel by comfortable vehicle to the forest. As daylight fades, the bush transforms — birds quieten, insects hum, and the forest canopy glows faintly in the moonlight. Once you’re on the trail, your eyes adjust to the dark and the true magic begins. Thousands of tiny blue lights appear all around you, scattered along the banks of a stream and hanging from damp fern walls like a living galaxy.
This isn’t a cave tour or a busy attraction, it is a calm, intimate experience designed for those who love nature and quiet wonder. Your guide will lead the way on an easy, well-formed path while sharing stories about the forest, the ecology that allows glow worms to thrive here, and the unique role they play in New Zealand’s ecosystems.
You’ll learn how these fascinating creatures live, feed, and glow, and why their light is one of the most mesmerizing natural sights in the country. Depending on the night, you may also hear the soft trickle of nearby creeks, hear native birds settling for the evening, or simply enjoy the stillness that comes with being deep in nature after dark.
After your walk, relax as you travel back to the city refreshed, grounded, and glowing yourself from a truly special encounter with New Zealand’s natural magic.
