Description
Just a short drive from Auckland city we meet at the end of Takatu Road, inside Auckland's Tawharanui Regional Park. Gather with the group and learn about the evening's plan, safety measures, and the park's diverse ecosystem before you begin your adventure.
Embark on an exciting kiwi-spotting expedition as dusk sets in. Traverse through the park's native bush with your guide and keep your senses alert as you search for signs of kiwi activity. Discover fascinating facts about these iconic birds along the way.
Next, head to a secluded stargazing spot within the park, away from city lights and with minimal light pollution. Equip yourself with telescopes and binoculars provided by your guide.
Watch the night sky transform into a breathtaking canvas adorned with countless stars, planets, and celestial marvels, all while learning about astronomy and indigenous sky stories.
Experience the magic of Tawharanui's shoreline as bioluminescent plankton illuminate the waters with a natural blue-green glow. During certain times of the year, see these tiny organisms create a mesmerizing spectacle as they react to movement, turning the waves into a shimmering display of light.
Finally, say farewell to your guide and fellow adventurers as you return to the car park. If you have chosen to stay overnight in a glamping tent, sleep among the soothing sounds of waves and kiwis in the distance.
*Glamping tents are provided by SNM, fully furnished, available ~2hrs prior to tour start. *Campsite bookings must be made and paid by you prior, see https://www.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/parks-recreation/stay-at-park/Pages/accommodation-details.aspx?itemID=79
