Discover the picturesque wine making region of Matakana, and feast your taste buds to a delicious variety of cheese, wine, and honey on a scenic coastal getaway tour. Start your journey heading north to the region of Matakana, a market garden vineyard and farming region. Drive along the coast, and enjoy spectacular views on your way to the seaside resort towns of Orewa and Waiwera Mineral Springs. Drop into historic Puhoi township, and sample blue cheeses at the Puhoi Cheese Company. Enjoy a wine tasting at Ransom Wines, and make your way to Ascension Vineyard or Plume Vineyard restaurant for an open menu one-course lunch with tea and coffee. In the afternoon, enjoy a tasting at either Ransom or Omaha Bay Wines. And as you start making your way home, stop and see an 850 year old Kauri tree. End your trip on a sweet note at the New Zealand Honey Center, where you can try some of the local honeys and have a look at the wall hives. Not only do they have a range of excellent honeys but also honey related products like, chocolate, pollen, propolis, royal jelly mead, skin creams, and health supplements.
