Heading south from Auckland along the main Southern Highway, you can enjoy the scenery of small rural townships while enjoying your Morning Snack. Your journey takes you through the largest province for dairy and sheep farming in New Zealand, where you can learn about the farming settlements and the birthplace of the Maori monarchy from your guide. Upon your arrival to Waitomo's glow worm caves you will experience an enchanting guided tour. Drift quietly in a boat as you stare in amazement at the world-famous cave formations lit with thousands of tiny lights from glow worms. A boxed lunch will be served on board as you drive from Waitomo to Rotorua, New Zealand's highest city at 1,000 feet. In Rotorua, you will be given a 45-minute tour that introduces you to farming in New Zealand, where you can watch sheep being shorn, animals being fed, and a sheepdog trial. Next, you will drive through the beautiful foreshore park on the banks of Lake Rotorua, where you can observe hundreds of ducks and swans before taking in the sight of the historic Government Gardens. After that, you can learn about the Maori people by watching a 45-minute cultural performance inside Te Puia's sacred Marae (meeting house). You will be able to visit Rotorua's premier attractions – the Whakarewarewa Thermal Reserve and the Maori Arts and Crafts Institute. Inspect the woodcarving, weaving displays, Maori village, and geothermal features of the valley, such as the Pohutu Geyser, fumaroles, colorful silica deposits, and boiling mud pools.
