Te Whanganui-A-Hei (Cathedral Cove) Marine Reserve
Auckland
An iconic attraction in the Coromandel Peninsula, Cathedral Cove is a 45 minute walk on foot (no access by vehicle) from the car park and one of the most photographed spots in New Zealand. The beach was used as one of the scenes in the movie 'Chronicles of Narnia - Prince Caspian'.
The popular natural attraction attracts its fair share of tourists so the car park can get full fairly quickly. Arriving before 10.00am should ensure you get a space.
The Hahei Coastal Walkway track starts at the northern end of Hahei beach. At the beginning of the trail there is a scenic lookout loverlooking the Mercury Bay coastline, Cathedral Cove and Hahei beach with some information panels on the area. Descending the track also gives you access to Stingray Bay and Gemstone Bay before you reach the gorgeous sandy beach at Cathedral Cove.
Allow ninety minutes return and take the appropriate walking shoes. And remember to take your camera!
