New Chums Beach
Auckland
New Chums Beach is a 'hidden beach' situated in Wainuiototo Bay on the Coromandel Peninsula. Located a short drive from Whangapoua, with its own glorious white sand beach, New Chums Beach can only be accessed by boat or a testing walk.
The walk to the beach is via a partially maintained trail that takes approximately 30 minutes. Starting from the northern end of Whangapoua Beach, visitors need to walk across the beach and a small stream, before walking across rocks nestled by the sea and onto a steep climb up and down through native bush. The reward is worth it though, with a 1 kilometre arched beach with beautiful ocean views and seclusion!
To the north, New Chums Beach is flanked by tall Pukenu, while to the southeast, the rocky Motuto Point rises to 85 metres.
Getting There
From Coromandel Town, follow State Highway 25, turn off at Te Rerenga along Whangapoua Road and drive to the northern end of Whangapoua Beach where you will see an information panel for New Chums Beach.
