Fitness and Gyms in North Shore
Aucklanders are a bit health-obsessed, and they don't get that way by just sitting around all day. Fitness in Auckland is a big deal, so you'll find plenty of gyms, health clubs and fitness centres to drop into while you're here.
Auckland Fitness can take you anywhere from the gym, to the sauna, to the swimming pool and beyond. When you're away from home, it's hard to stay healthy, what with the myriad bars and restaurants to sample. But if you like to stay in shape, you couldn't be in a better-equipped place. If you're staying in one of the larger hotels, you'll probably find they have their own gym or fitness centre. Many self-catering apartment complexes also have their own gyms. If your holiday accommodation doesn't stretch to such luxuries, try heading over to the Olympic pool in Newmarket, or get a day membership at a hotel fitness complex. Auckland has many municipal gyms and swimming pools, plus endless cycling tracks. Some parks have small outdoor fitness areas (often mistaken for children's playgrounds), but if you're a gentle exerciser, then just walking around the city's streets and gardens will be enough to keep you in shape.
