Situated 82 kilometres north of downtown Auckland on the north east tip of the Mahurangi Peninsula, Scandrett Regional Park features an attractive beach, historic farm buildings, rocky headlands and some picturesque walking trails.
The small car park area that overlooks the beach of Kawau Bay and is the starting point for a number of different walking trails. Located right next to the car park are a number of historic farm buildings and a small information hut which includes maps and leaflets on the area.
The historic Scandrett homestead, built around 1855, along with the farm buildings are a reminder of a bygone era when access to the farming property was only by sea. The Scandrett family farmed the land up until 1998 when it was sold to Auckland Council
The best way to enjoy the park is to take one of the walking trails.
Martins Bay Track.15 minutes. A short walk to Martins Bay with its boat ramp, swimming beach and privately run campground. It borders the park to the south and is easy to reach on foot. Park at the car park opposite the stockyards and head down the hill.
Mullet Point Loop 1 hour. A 2 kilometre walk along the Kawau Road track to Mullet Point. Walk along to the point where you will find the historic Maori pa site then return via Mullet Point Track and Pigsty Track.
Scandrett Bay Loop 45 minutes. A 1 kilometre loop track that can start at either of the car parks. It includes the Orchard, Stockyard and Pigsty Tracks along with part of the Mullet Point Track. The path leads through the historic farm precinct, the former orchard and the current farm.
