Explore our nation’s aviation history through the lens of New Zealand’s pioneering aviation photography studios with Scanning the Skies.

Scanning the Skies contains framed and digital images from the Whites Aviation and Mannering and Associates collections and the stories of these pioneering aviation photography studios. Jean Batten’s flying helmet and other evocative objects from her career are also displayed for the first time.

Scanning the Skies: Digitising the Photography Collection showcases the amazing work done by the Library team, while also highlighting the extraordinary collections our Library cares for! This exhibition introduces visitors to the processes involved in caring for our collections, and reveals how the MOTAT team gives our collections new life through digitisation.

Don’t miss this captivating exhibition, open to the public from 10am and 4:30pm from Monday to Friday in the Walsh Memorial Library at MOTAT’s Great North Road site. Open for a limited time.

The Library houses an impressive collection historical materials and stories, and is a fantastic resource available to the public. Drop in visits are welcome or research requests can be made through the library.

Opening Monday 19 March, 2018 | Normal MOTAT admission fees apply | Monday to Friday | Closed on Public Holidays
