Paeroa
Situated at the foot of the Coromandel Peninsula, the small town of Paeroa is neaby to the junction of the Waihou and Ohinemuri Rivers, 32 kilometres south of Thames.
Visitors can enjoy one of the culture capitals of the Coromandel region, complete with historic buildings, like the downtown National Bank Gold Refinery, along with great access to the Karangahake Gorge, where itâs possible to spot some of the rusting relics of the Coromandelâs old mining days.
The seven metre tall Lemon & Paeroa statue thatâs made the town famous throughout the Coromandel is something of an apt symbol for its quirkiness as a whole.
In addition to the heritage-related pursuits, Paeroaâs unique inland position also makes it a great spot for hiking and biking excursions on the Hauraki Rail Trail.
